Blue Mill Farmhouse at dusk, wraparound porch lit against a green metal roof, kayak and fishing rods on the lawn

The Blue Mill Farmhouse

Porch lights. River water. Nowhere to be.

A wraparound-porch farmhouse on pasture and trout-stream water, with beautiful mountain views and sunset views from on top of the mountain, with private walking access — in East Tennessee, just east of Gatlinburg, where the fishing rods stay by the door and the porch lights come on at dusk.

Rocking Chairs, a Welcome Mat, and Nowhere to Be

You come up the drive as the light goes gold over the pasture and reflects on the beautiful mountain top, and the porch light is already lit. A quilt is folded over the chair arm for whoever wants it. The screen door still has that hinge-creak that means somebody's home.

Inside, wide-plank floors, warm lamplight, and a farmhouse table built for the whole group. Outside, forty steps of covered porch wrapping three sides of the house, facing the hillside and the trout stream below.

Pasture on One Side, Trout Stream on the Other, with Breathtaking Views

Almost 35 acres, where the hillside opens into a run of open pasture, a trout stream cuts along the edge, and a weathered barn watches over both. Cattle graze the far field, and a bald eagle makes regular rounds over the property. A footbridge crosses the water. Fly rods and a kayak wait in the grass for whoever wants them.

And it doesn't stop at the property line — see what's nearby, from the French Broad to the Appalachian Trail.

Everybody Fits at the Table

The dining room means business — a long farmhouse table under a wall of reclaimed barnwood, spelling out the one word that matters here. It's where breakfast turns into an hour of coffee and cards, and where the day's fishing report gets told twice, embellished the second time.

This is a house built for a full table, not a quiet one.
